Our 12 yr old daughter is del+ and has always been very happy and social at home, schools and camps. However, within the last 3 months her "behavior" and anxiety has been quite debilitating. She's been crying, gagging herself, tantruming, etc. She gets so upset when I leave her...even if I walk 3 feet away from her. It's like she panics and freaks out, again crying (almost whaling) and gagging herself to the point where she will throw up. Anyway, the doctor wants to start her on Risperadol and I have read the websites and a previous post and am reluctant to try it but nothing else seems to be working. I would love to hear some positive feedback on anyone's experience with Risperadol. Negative is welcome too because I need to comsider everything, but positive would sure be reassuring! Thanks! Janet

Our experience with Risperadol was a nightmare (sorry) I tried it with Neenah for 3 days, and had to stop. She was like a wild animal. It had a very opposite effect on her (as do most drugs)
They put her on it to make her "teachable" because she had similar behaviors as your daughter, and also she can not stand to be touched, so it made therapy impossible. She would spend an hour screaming hysterically like we were trying to kill her. Her therapists were very frustrated.
All risperadol did was intensify that, and kept her from sleeping for over 24 hours. I spent over 24 hours watching her spit, and slap, and shake her head side to side, and scream, and bang her head. I will NEVER try another medicine to "calm' her again.
Good luck to you on whatever you decide.

Thank you so much for your information. I haven't heard much good about it, so I don't think it's worth trying.
